Heidi received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 1992, which she followed with a Masters Degree from the same institution in 1995. She then received her MBA with distinction from the University of Warwick in 2004. Heidi’s experience has involved extensive research and consultancy work in the areas of strategic competitiveness (within countries and within organisations), organisational effectiveness and enterprise development.

Heidi is the co-founder and managing director of Mthente and is integrally involved in the daily operations of Mthente, as well as project management, staff development and strategic planning. She has coordinated research and conducted facilitations for numerous Mthente clients, including supply chain linkages between multi-national companies and Basotho-owned SMME’s in Lesotho, competitiveness programmes for the Clothing and Textile Centre (CLOTEX) and the Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) in Cape Town and export promotion strategies for ICT companies in the Western Cape.

Heidi’s advisory and mentoring role at the Cape Chamber of Commerce also provides her with insights into the challenges faced by SMMEs. Furthermore, her facilitation of workshops at UCT and an organisational evaluation of Inyathelo: The South African Institute for Advancement adds to the vast experience she has gained locally and internationally.

From 1999 to 2005, Heidi worked as a senior consultant in the United Kingdom, where she consulted to leading blue-chip companies and public sector organisations, such as Microsoft, Lloyd's TSB, Hammerson Properties, Currie & Brown, the British Library, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, London Development Agency, Scottish Executive, St Andrew’s University, the National Blood Service and University of Leeds.  Before this she was a Senior Case Management Officer in the Western Cape office of the Commission for Conciliation and Arbitration (CCMA) and a key aspect of her work involved evaluating and reviewing Employment Equity Plans.

Heidi has also conducted workshops on leadership and management for women leaders in NGOs and the public sector; including, the Policy Project for whom she provided support on organisational design and development issues, which included carrying out a salary benchmarking study; the facilitation of a strategic planning workshop for the Institute for Security Studies; and the development of a business plan for the Office of the Premier in the Western Cape.

Heidi has also lectured at Varsity College on the UNISA BCom programme, at the Cape University of Technology (CPUT) on the business development programme where she taught on the organisational development module and at Damelin on the Business Management Diploma where she lectured on the strategy and organisational behavioural modules.
