Zanele Khumalo, B Hons Sociology (University of Cape Town)
In 2005, Zanele completed a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree at the University of Cape Town with a double major in Psychology and Social Anthropology. She then obtained an Honours degree in Diversity Studies from the same institution in 2008 and is currently enrolled in a Masters degree in the same programme. As a researcher and consultant for Mthente, Zanele brings over three years of work experience in the development sector and strong qualitative research skills, which she has applied in a range of research projects for various NGOs and government departments.
Shortly after joining Mthente, Zanele ran
a four-day training workshop for the Basotho Enterprises Development
Corporation (BEDCO) on developing business plans, work plans and
effective professional communication skills. She is currently working
on a research project for the Department of Economic Development and
Tourism investigating the state of Broad Based Black Economic
Empowerment (BBBEE) in the Western Cape.At her previous job, Zanele conducted fieldwork for an evaluation on community based responses to HIV/AIDS, compiled a report on a pilot family literacy project and conducted desktop research on funding scenarios and trends within the arts and culture sector. Zanele has effective facilitation skills, which have been demonstrated in her facilitation of cultural diversity training workshops for women involved in community work, as well as young adults involved in the arts.
In addition to her strengths as a facilitator, Zanele’s strong writing skills have been developed through research and content development for various websites and for publication purposes – for electronic newsletters and departmental newsletters.
