Nsenga is Congolese citizen who completed his Master’s degree in Economics at the University of Johannesburg in 2010. His thesis analysed the impact of foreign direct investment on per capita income in African countries. Nsenga will be working at Mthente from November to December 2011.

Caroline is a 4th year undergraduate student at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America. She is completing a degree in International Affairs with a minor in Business and History. Graduating in May 2013, she plans on teaching English abroad for a few years before returning to school for her Master’s. She will be working at Mthente from September to October 2011.

Kate is a Master’s student from the University of Amsterdam who will graduate in European Foreign Relations at the end of 2011. She will be working as an intern at Mthente from August to October 2011. During her time at Mthente, she conducted desktop research for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Productivity SA, as well as assisting with fieldwork for a FEDICS catering services survey at the University of Cape Town.

Sam is a 3rd year undergraduate student at Mount Allison University, in New Brunswick, Canada. He is completing a double Honours Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics with a focus in Finance. He will be graduating in May of 2012 and then plans to complete his MBA at Wharton or Harvard Business School. Sam worked at Mthente as an intern from April to June 2011. After leaving Mthente, he was hired as an investment banker for CIBC (Canadian Imperial Bank or Commerce) World Markets.

Huber’s primary area of specialisation is economics, with a separate focus in international studies. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in both Business Economics and International Studies at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Both degrees were obtained with high honors. He interned at Mthente for March and April 2011, assisting significantly with a set of resources for the Career Development Programme at the University of Cape Town.

Michael is a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in the U.S.A. In December 2009, he was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Management. During his time at Eau Claire, he was the Vice President for the American Marketing Association, where he helped coordinate large charity events for the Special Olympics.

Debbie will graduate with her Master’s degree in Sociology (Development) from the University of Cape Town in December 2009. Her thesis investigated the barriers to employment for unskilled workers in Site C, Khayelitsha and in Du Noon, Milnerton, looking specifically at whether or not the spatial mismatch theory applies. She worked with Mthente as an intern from November to mid-December 2009.

Osman is a recent Political Science and Psychology graduate from Canada who joined Mthente for May, June, and July 2009. He worked on several research projects in coordination with Mthente’s staff members, including an assessment of the state of visual art education in the Western Cape.

Henna Kippo
Henna is a Finnish business student in her fourth year at South Karelia University of Applied Sciences in Lappeenranta, Finland. She joined Mthente as an intern in September, 2008 and assisted for ten weeks with administrative tasks, research and the creation of a newspaper clippings database.

Molly Cohn
Molly worked with Mthente during the month of August 2008 and assisted with the development of a co-operative strategy for the Gauteng Provincial Government. In September 2008, Molly began her first year as a Ph.D. student in the Stanford political science department.

Loes Schrijvers
Loes is a Dutch Governance student, who was part of the Mthente team for May, June and July 2008. She assisted significantly with an evaluation for the C.S. Mott Foundation, which involved a review of the Foundation's impact on its grantees in the thematic area of race and ethnic relations. She was also involved in a project for Oxfam Novib mapping key role players in the EPA negotiations in Angola.
