Mthente recently conducted research for IAPO on the impact and value of international full degree and semester study abroad students at UCT. This research will inform the topics to be discussed in the colloquium, which will include:

  • The extent to which academic departments are intuitively or consciously incorporating international and intercultural dimensions into the range of academic programmes in response to an increasingly diverse student population and growing international activity on campus.
  • The extent to which academics are being challenged to innovate with regard to the relevance of the curricula they present.
  • The extent to which course offerings are becoming a blend of local, regional and international content.
  • The extent to which international students are having an impact on the dynamics of the classroom.
