Enabling economic integration of youth in Africa through job creation, entrepreneurship and education is essential for sustainable growth and socio-economic development, as well as for inclusion and hope for the future of today’s African youth in tomorrow’s world.

GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
South Africa has a critical role to play in Africa’s development, in view of its successful political post-apartheid transition to democracy, its exceptional (by African standards) performance in respect to the Millennium Development Goals, and its relative wealth and expertise. This is also reflected in its determination to foster regional collaboration and the promotion of economic growth, peace, and stability in Africa.

In addition, even though South Africa has the biggest and strongest economy in Africa, it is faced with similar challenges and problems that plague other African countries, notably high unemployment as well as widespread poverty and social inequality.

The fourth Garnet Capacity Building Workshop will focus on the role of trade, entrepreneurship and education in creating opportunities for youth and strengthening Africa’s sustainable economic development. Central themes of the meeting will include domestic governance and business, entrepreneurship, education, human capital formation, management skills development, employment, social entrepreneurship, the role of women, trade policy and capacity building.

This multi-stakeholder event will unfold over 3 days, starting with a series of plenary sessions on topical issues; the last day will consist in a full day of collective work based on an assignment.
