Case Study: Cape Town Fashion Council – Assisting the Development of a Competitiveness Programme for SMMEs and Carrying out a Programme Evaluation
Mthente has been commissioned by the Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) to develop and review the CTFC’s Fashion for Business Programme. The programme aims to empower local fashion designers to become fashion entrepreneurs and survive in a competitive industry.

Mthente has assisted in developing training materials for both mentors and entrepreneurs, as well as an evaluation tool to monitor the progress of the designers during the Fashion for Business Programme. This tool will also be adapted for ongoing evaluations and reporting. Monthly reports will be developed for the CTFC to show the progress and impact against the key performance indicators.
Following the completion of the pilot programme, Mthente will conduct an evaluation of the programme and its impact on the participating designers and their businesses. This evaluation will be used by the CTFC to develop case studies that can be used to disseminate learning across the industry.
Previously, Mthente assisted the CTFC in conducting a needs assessment among designers in the Western Cape, developing a business plan for the Fashion for Business Programme and managing the selection process for the Programme. Mthente also presented the findings from the needs assessment at Design Indaba 2009 and at the CTFC’s AGM in October 2009.
