Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) - Compilation of the Consolidated Annual Report on Municipal Performance of Municipalities for the 2008/2009 Financial Year

In August 2011, Mthente was awarded a contract by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) to assist with the development of the Consolidated Annual Report on Municipal Performance in terms of section 48 of the Municipal System Act for the 2008/2009 financial year.
      

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation – Feasibility Study of a Pilot Primary School Programme

In light of substantial evidence that many South African students are underachieving in primary school, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation has developed a model for a pilot primary school programme that will aim to improve primary education in South Africa. To test their proposed approach, the Foundation commissioned Mthente in August 2011 to undertake a feasibility study of the pilot programme.
      

FEDICS Catering Services – Student Perception Survey at the University of Cape Town

In August 2011, FEDICS, the sole caterer at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) dining halls, commissioned Mthente to conduct a survey to test perceptions of students towards the catering services provided by FEDICS within the UCT residence dining halls.
      

Engen – Division Climate and Culture Survey

In July 2011, Mthente was commissioned by Engen Petroleum Ltd. to conduct a climate and culture survey within one of its core divisions. This was the second climate and culture survey that Mthente has carried out for Engen.
      

Protea Hospitality Group – Staff Perception Poll

In June 2011, Mthente was awarded a contract by the Protea Hospitality Group to conduct a staff perception poll. The poll aimed to discover how Protea staff feels about a number of key human resource aspects such as diversity, remuneration, rewards, management style, leadership, career development, office cleanliness and company benefits.
      

Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) – Development of an Organisational Framework and Road Map

In June 2011, FTTSA and Swisscontact commissioned Mthente Research and Consulting Service (Pty) Ltd to conduct research to underpin the development of a sustainable business model for FTTSA, a non-profit organisation (NPO) which focuses on promoting responsible, sustainable tourism.
      

Engen – Refinery Climate and Culture Survey

In December 2010 and January 2011, Mthente carried out a climate and culture survey at one of Engen’s key refineries. The aim of the study was to assess behaviour, attitudes, perceptions and levels of commitment among Engen’s employees and managers at the refinery.
      

Draftfcb Social Marketing - Revision and Reformulation of the Electricity Act

Mthente was commissioned by Draftfcb Social Marketing to conduct a revision and reformation of the Electricity Act as part of Operation Khanyisa’s attempts to curb electricity theft in the country. The study centred on a review of existing legislation across eleven South African Municipalities.
      

Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI) – Evaluation of the CCDI’s Craft Sector and Innovation Development Programme in the SADC Region

In February 2011, Mthente Research was commissioned by the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI) to undertake an external evaluation of its Craft Sector and Innovation Development Programme in the SADC region. Previously, Mthente completed an assessment for the CCDI of the state of basic art education in the Western Cape.

      

International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) – Strategic Planning Facilitation

Mthente has a strong working relationship with the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and has facilitated several strategic planning sessions for them, in addition to carrying out two impact assessments.

      

Old Mutual Foundation – Benchmarking Research to Define Flagship Projects

In September 2009, Mthente was commissioned by Old Mutual South Africa (OMSA) to conduct an internal audit and benchmarking study for the Old Mutual Foundation.

      

Yardstick – Review of Occupational Health and Safety for Eskom

Mthente has been commissioned by Yardstick to conduct qualitative research with Eskom employees that will seek to address Occupational Health and Safety issues.

      

South African Holocaust Foundation (SAHF) – Development of Impact Measurement Toolkit and Business Case

Mthente has been commissioned by the South African Holocaust Foundation (SAHF) to develop the research design for conducting an impact assessment of the Foundation’s teacher training programmes, which are rolled out in the form of workshops across South Africa.


      

International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) – Strategic Review of the Impact and Value of International Full Degree Students at the University of Cape Town

Mthente has been commissioned by the International Academic Programmes Office at UCT to conduct a qualitative and quantitative review of the impact and value of the International Full Degree (IFD) programme at UCT, which has doubled in size in the last 10 years ago due the popularity of UCT as a study destination for international students.


      

Yardstick – Qualitative Research to Inform Eskom’s Quality Management Communication Strategy

In June 2010, Mthente was commissioned by Yardstick to carry out in-depth interviews and focus groups workshops with Eskom managers and employees to underpin the development and implementation of an internal communication strategy. The communication strategy needed to be informed by the key quality issues and needs of Eskom.

      

Basotho Enterprises Development Corporation (BEDCO) – Training Workshop

In February 2010, Mthente was commissioned by the Basotho Enterprises Development Corporation (BEDCO) to facilitate a training workshop for the officers who are involved in the development of Small, Medium and Micro enterprises in Lesotho.


      

International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) – Strategic Review

In November 2009, Mthente was commissioned by the International Academic Programmes Office (IAPO) of the University of Cape Town (UCT) to conduct a strategic evaluation and impact assessment of the Semester Study Abroad (SSA) programme.

      

Old Mutual Foundation – Internal Audit and Benchmarking Study

In September 2009, Mthente was commissioned by Old Mutual South Africa (OMSA) to conduct an internal audit and benchmarking study for the Old Mutual Foundation, in collaboration with the Ilima Trust.

      

Draftfcb Social Marketing and the Public Administration Leadership and Management Academy (Palama) – Market Research for the Development of a Branding and Messaging Campaign

In July 2009, Mthente was commissioned by Draftfcb Social Marketing, on behalf of the Public Administration Leadership and Management Academy (Palama), to test a number of themed messages designed to represent Palama and convey its communication and business objectives.

      

University of Cape Town (UCT) Sports Council – Strategic Planning Workshop Facilitation

In July 2009, the Sports Council of the University of Cape Town (UCT) commissioned Mthente to facilitate a one day sports bosberaad (workshop). The strategic planning workshop was held on 1 August 2009 with a broad range of sport constituencies.

      

Basotho Enterprises Development Corporation (BEDCO) - Sector Research

Smaller enterprises have largely been unable to access the real benefits from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which offers Sub-Saharan African countries duty-free access to the US market for clothing and textile products. BEDCO, therefore, commissioned Mthente to explore the possibility of developing supply chain linkages between SMME’s and larger manufacturers - both Multinational Corporations and South African based manufacturers -- in Lesotho’s clothing and textile sector.
      

Umthombo Wesizwe Children’s Project – Monitoring and Evaluation of Pilot Programme

In May 2009, Mthente was commissioned by the Umthombo Wesizwe Children’s Project to monitor and evaluate the impact of the project’s pilot programme on its beneficiaries. Umthombo’s vision as an NGO is to “provide a platform for pre-teen children from diverse communities in South Africa to develop an identity that will enable them to evolve as ethical leaders within a multicultural society.”

      

CLOTEX - Enterprise Development Strategy

In line with the BEE Act of 2004 and the focus on the need to accelerate enterprise development projects between big and small companies in the BBBEE Codes of Good Practices, Mthente worked with the Executive Manager, Chairperson of the Board and mentors of CLOTEX to build an enterprise development strategy for the organisation.

Mthente undertook research in four key areas related to CITI'S Growth Strategy May 2008 - May 2009.
      

Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in South Africa - Evaluation of Race and Ethnic Relations Programmes

Mthente's brief for this evaluation was to assess the Mott Foundation’s impact on its grantees in the thematic area of race and ethnic relations.
      

Inyathelo: The South African Institute for Advancement - Feasibility Study

Mthente undertook a feasibility study looking into the establishment of a Human Rights Trust in South Africa.
      

University of Cape Town (UCT) - Strategic Planning Workshop Facilitation

Mthente worked with both the management teams and staff of the International Academic Programmes Office, Department of Student Affairs, Development and Alumni Department and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences to develop their strategic focus and plans.
      

City of Cape Town – Impact Assessment of the Cape Town Fashion Festival (CTFF)

In order to demonstrate whether the Cape Town Fashion festival (CTFF) has been successful in achieving its objectives, and whether the South African Clothing and Textiles Workers Union (SACTWU) has achieved its economic milestones outlined in their objectives for the festival, an impact assessment was conducted by Mthente.

      

Inyathelo: The South African Institute for Advancement - Evaluation

Mthente evaluated Inyathelo and its work from its inception in October 2002 until the financial year ending in February 2007.
      

CLOTEX – Independent Review

An independent review was undertaken of the work and activities undertaken by CLOTEX during the financial year ending March 2005. The aim and objective of this exercise was to provide impartial feedback and, through a gap analysis, to identify areas for delivery improvements and possible new projects that could benefit the targeted Western Cape SMMEs in the clothing and textile industry.

      

Cape Town Fashion Council – Business Plan for a Competitiveness Programme

In November 2008, Mthente assisted the Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) in developing a Business Plan for a Competitiveness Programme that will aim to empower local fashion designers to become fashion entrepreneurs and survive in a competitive industry.

      

Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Provincial Government of the Western Cape - Conceptual Business Case for Establishing a Design Precinct

In December 2008, Mthente was commissioned to develop a conceptual business case investigating the viability of establishing a Design Precinct in the Cape Town area.
