Mthente was commissioned by Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) to undertake a study of the impact of the Global Economic Crisis on selected Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries on behalf of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the SADC Employers Group (SEG).

Mthente's role in the study  involved an assessment of the economic crisis in Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, analysing the impact of the crisis on the realm of work in each country - particularly in terms of economic and business performance and working conditions. The study also identified economic risks and opportunities for businesses in these five countries and developed policy and programme recommendations designed to boost the economic recovery in the respective countries and across the SADC region.

Following the study, Mthente published a journal article in Africa Insight discussing the findings of the study. Click here to download the article.
