Mthente has been commissioned by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to collate and analyse all research studies pertaining to administered prices in South Africa. Through a comprehensive desktop research process, Mthente is currently evaluating the regulatory frameworks, guiding principles and drivers of administered prices in the energy, telecommunications, transport and water sectors in South Africa. The study also aims to develop a deeper understanding of the economic implications of administered prices in South Africa based on the existing research that has been undertaken to date.

The key findings of the study will form the basis of the work to be undertaken by an administered prices task team convened by the Trade and Industry Chamber of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac).
