Global and local research reports (e.g. Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Report) show that increased entrepreneurship and sustainable SMME’s are key drivers of economic development, as the SMME sector has the potential to address many of the socio-economic challenges faced by the communities in which these businesses operate.

However, this is largely dependent on SMME development in the form of training and mentoring/coaching programmes, building sustainable networks and supply chain alignment and optimisation.

In line with the BEE Act of 2004 and the focus on the need to accelerate enterprise development projects between big and small companies in the BBBEE Codes of Good Practices, Mthente worked with  the Executive Manager, Chairperson of the Board and mentors of CLOTEX to build an enterprise development strategy for the organisation.  This strategy focused on creating effective networks and support structures, facilitating improved access to mainstream business support organisations and establishing platforms to encourage industry-wide compliance and growth. The strategy was in turn supported by a high-level implementation plan and financial forecast.
