Mthente was commissioned by SAT to conduct key research on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations between the Africa, Pacific and Caribbean (ACP) group of countries and the European Union (EU).

This work included research trips to Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Tanzania, Botswana and Namibia. The Mthente team  produced the following research papers on the EPA negotiations:

 

  • Overview of the SADC and ESA EPA, and their impact on sub-regional livelihoods in agriculture and fisheries.
  • The role of agriculture in Southern Africa and the significance of the EPA negotiations in this context.
  • EPA negotiations: how global is the phenomenon?
  • Tanzanian experiences in negotiating the EPA and an assessment of the prospects of EPAs in poverty reduction.
  • EPA Handbook.
