South African Holocaust Foundation (SAHF) – Development of Impact Measurement Toolkit and Business Case
Mthente has been commissioned by the South African Holocaust Foundation (SAHF) to develop the research design for conducting an impact assessment of the Foundation’s teacher training programmes, which are rolled out in the form of workshops across South Africa.
The South African Holocaust Foundation (established in 2007) is committed to “creating a more caring and just society in which human rights and diversity are respected and valued.” In line with its mission, the SAHF raises awareness of Holocaust history and other genocides in order to promote human rights in contemporary society. Among other projects and programmes, the SAHF provides support for the national curriculum through the development of classroom support materials and the facilitation of national in-service teacher training, adult programmes and seminars. Given that such programmes have been rolled out across the nine provinces, there is a need to assess how effective the programmes have been.
To help the SAHF develop the research design for a comprehensive impact assessment, Mthente will begin with the first phase which will include:
- Conducting secondary research that provides a description of the SAHF and its surrounding context.
- Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on desktop research and the facilitation of a strategic session with the SAHF’s reference group.
- Ascertaining objectives and expected outcomes for the second phase of the project.
- Identifying and developing the measurement toolkit, which will include a survey questionnaire to be administered among teachers.
- Developing a business case for funding the impact assessment, the second phase of the research.
